Good idea but a word of caution.  If the washer is large enough to stick out
from under the edge of the clip and quite stiff, its edges may produce a slight
half moon dimple in the body.   You're using a flat object against a curved
surface.  You may want to sligtly curve the washers surface, or at least make
sure that the punched edges of the washer don't dig into the undersurface of the
tonneau panel.  I had that happen with a different application, and the dimple
is still there.  In this instance it was a large washer of a fender mirror used
under the curved surface of the fender.
