Frank:

Et,al. The plastic mounts are included by the manufacturer to
protect the lines from cutting or corrosion in instances where the original
vehicle mountings are in poor condition.

Two typical mounting designs in the MG involved either painted or
plated clips in direct contact with the brake line. If these clips are in
poor condition, then it is possible that the brake line could be damaged.
This is not a situation the manufacturer of the line wants to be liable for.

The choice to use the original clips is up to the restorer of the
vehicle. If the original clips are used, then the restorer assumes the
responsibility if there is a future failure due to the mountings.

I'm personally not really impressed at the way the 68-74 Fed MGB
brake lines are secured. The plated spring clips are a bit tricky to work
with, but I do agree the green clips are kinda tacky. I may go shopping for
clear or white plastic clips that are available from body shop supply
companies.

I did use similar plastic clips when I did the resto on a Land Rover
and was impressed at the ease of installation. In areas where they are not
so obvious, I think they are the way to go.
