  Interesting stuff.  However, here's another slant on item #5.  In
english days of yore, unwed fornicators were hied into court and fined
for their activities.  The clerk of the court entered the fines into a
ledger as: "For Unwed Carnal Knowledge."  Soon, they contracted it to
just the first letter of each word.
