The three vs two wiper business was a function of swept area requirements
of US Safety Standards that became effective in 1968. With regard to
MGs, it also became a function of roadster vs GT. The GT has a "taller"
windscreen and the wiper blades are longer. This enable the GT
configuration to meet the swept area requirment. The roadster, having a
shorter windscreen, needed three wiper blades to meet this requirement.
