Having sat in cars with renewed foams I know just how high they can be.
Whether they are denser than the original material and hence compress less
or the old ones have compressed over time I don't know, but I know it is
damned uncomfortable and I would be surprised if the factory sent them out
like that.  I have heard of people cutting an inch off the bottom of the
foam.  You could try removing the straps/diaphragm altogether and sitting on
the foam on the floor if you don't move the seat much, or add an inch to the
straps/diaphragm frame hooks (making it loose I know).
