In a followup to my post at about the same time this was sent - I passed on
a deal for a 64 B in pieces that included a hard top in rough condition. My
interest was more in the car then the top and I wasn't sure the value of
the top. The owner has actually asked for $1200 and I told him at most I
thought it was all worth $400. He countered with $400 for the car and no
top or $500 for both.
I passed on the deal. About a month ago, my son asked the owner what became
of the car. He said that shortly after I declined, he got an offer of $800
for the whole thing from someone in Canada (the car was in Montana). Maybe
it was the top because the car was completely disassembled, frame and all,
with some parts missing, and a rusted out body shell.
Soft tops cost between $250-$350 by comparison. Soft tops for my Toyota
Landcruiser cost $550 (comes with frame and doors). So in that context, the
$500 for the B hard top doesn't sound too bad, depending on what its
overall condition is. The Ebay ad was kind of sketchy in that regard but
some work was going to be required.
