Hey, Larry
When I go to London, which for a while was about once a quarter, I have
gotten to where I never take any Brit cash or exchange at all. I use plastic
and ATMs. Yes, the ATM's are everywhere, including several at the airports
(either one) and VISA is pretty universal for buying things in stores and
pubs and restaurants.
The bank's exchange rates which you will see when you get your bank
statement or Visa bill are far better than using any currency exchange.
They trade in the millions daily.
Same goes for just about every European country, including the Baltics, such
as Latvia and Lithuania, where I traveled last spring. ATMs everywhere, at
the markets, gas stations, on the sidewalks... don't leave home without it.
And I have never been hit by street crime over there either, but do guard my
wallet in an inside pocket. The only time I have been ripped off was in
Mexico where someone at the hotel took my phone card and charged hundreds on
airphone charges before AT&T cut it off.
Hope she has fun. Tell her Good Luck. And to stay away from the Burger Kings
there. There are thousands in London.
