Although some body shops still use antiquated equipment HVLP is the current
standard and the only thing EPA wants used.
As for how it will effect you in your project, it's better. You can get
equally good finishes with either type but HVLP has some advantages. HVLP
stands for High Volume Low Pressure. That means a High Volume of paint is
delivered at Low pressure. This means you need a much smaller compressor to
operate the gun properly. There will be far less overspray, and because
there is less overspray more of the very expensive paint is going to land on
the LBC.
Typacly the HVLP guns are operated closer to the work than the older type
guns. You will just have to practice until you develop a satisfactory
technique.
