Ok....well after digging a touch I feel like a bit of a fool.
I cleaned the power lead at the brake switch and the brakes worked. I
figured after that I must be having good luck, so the turn signal
problem must be as simple as the signal 'flasher'
needed replaced. So I looked up under the passenger side dash, and found my
problem......There was NO flasher, a quick trip to the parts place for
a thermal flasher and I was off and running.

So I learned my lesson, just because Lucas electrical systems have a bad
name doesn't mean mine has a mind of its own.

Thanks for all the tips and info folks, since I followed most of those
first I was able to learn a great deal about how my system is set up and
how the PO rigged some of it.

Also Ed, I will keep you in mind anytime I need any parts.
