You mean you don't have a gun rack in your MG????
The gun has been are part of the American landscape since before there was an
America. There's the obvious Revolution and various wars following.
Westward expansion was probably made possible in part by the firearm. In
parts of the country, kids usually get their first gun (a rifle) before they
can shave, and spend hours in the fields hunting rabbits and squirrels, and
shooting tin cans off the fence.
IMHO, however, most people own guns for the wrong reasons -- protection. If
somebody is breaking into your home, do you really have time to fetch the gun
from the locked gun cabinet, remove the trigger lock, fetch the bullets from
another locked cabinet, load the gun, and then scare the robber off? NO!
Unfortunately, what happens more often than not, is the kids stumble across
it while playing, and the next day you read about a tragic accidental death
in the paper.
But, as others have already said, there is something about the safety and
machismo represented by a gun that makes advertisers play it up....
