Hello,
Some of you on the list may remember me as I have been lurking here for a
few years and got in private discussions with some of you about music,
politics, and cars. Well, now we have another thing in common. Today I
titled the 1974 MGB I bought this weekend. Actually, my fiance helped me buy
it cause she loves the idea of using it as the getaway car in our wedding
next year, but that's another story.
Took it for its first legal drive tonight. I was warned by the PO that the
valve clearances need adjusting, so we kept the trip short. We filled the
gas tank and took it back to the house and garage where I am storing it. I
have never driven an attention-getting vehicle before.
It's not perfect, but was a pretty good deal for $2400.
Does anyone know where I can find a good picture of the choke setup? My
Haynes manual doesn't have very many carburator pix, so I don't know how to
reconnect the cable nor whether any of the parts are missing. I ordered a
few other books, but if anyone else knows something, please let me know. The
car has dual SU's.
Also, the brake lights don't work. The PO, who happens to be a mechanic,
traced the fault to either the hazard switch or flasher. The switch was
visibly broken and I've ordered another. If that doesn't work, what to check
next?
Where can I find the sending unit to the fuel gauge? Vicky-Brit doesn't have
one that I know of and my Moss catalog is AWOL.
Thank you for your help. I've been reading the list for a long time and feel
like I've learned something, though there is no substitute for getting your
hands dirty. Now, all I've got to do is break the news to my parents.
Thanks,
-William Killeffer
