It sounds like cuting and drilling is the way to go. As for the rest of the
bolts there is no reason to believe that these bolts have softened due to
age. That just dosen't happen. Bolts are heat treated after
forming/machining to give them the proper hardness and tentil strength for
their intended purpose. What may be is that there was a defective batch.
Are there more in your car with the same defect? Possibly but not
necessarily. Is it wise to change them? I would if they are easy to get at,
not otherwise, they have lasted this long.
