Edwin,
My experience with car covers is that they are better than nothing, but
not much better.
Plain nylon covers chafe the paint and put tiny scratches on it. Flannel
and Technalon are much better, but even Technalon is not waterproof in
the sense that most describe the term.
Seems to me that the ideal cover would provide shade and keep 100
percent of rain out, but allow condensation to evaporate.
I think what I would do if I had to store a car outside for a few
months would be to buy a fitted Technalon cover, but then fasten one of
the blue or green poly tarps over the top of the car so that rain would
run down past the top of the doors. That way you would be able to leave
the windows partly open for ventilation (cat control is another issue),
the top would be protected, and the paint would get the best protection
available w/o risking trapping water under the cover.
