Hi Gregg,
Had the same probelm with my '70 when I purchased it. In my case the little
tab that is screwed into the lock assembly had unscrewed itself. This tab
engages the latch assembly (see page 76, MOSS #MGB-13). Sounds like this
may of happened to you as well.
In my case I ended up drilling out the lock assembly to reach the latch,
replacement locks are $28.95 from MOSS, far cheaper than the frustration of
trying to hook the latch.
