$5000 sounds extremely ridiculous for the engine rebuild, depending on the
problem, you should be able to keep it under $2000. For blown rings and no
cylnder wall problems under $1000 easy. The cost starts to go up when it
has to be taken to a crank shop and the block bored out or such.. Some
people replace every last thing in the engine when they do a rebuild,
including head and pistons even when its a simple problem, if thats what
you want to do, $5000 is probably reasonable. Taking the engine out,
taking it apart and such aren't that hard to do. It's not a weekend
project really but it is definetly a learning experience...
