Eastwood makes a sealer/protector that supposedly leaves a clear protective 
finish.  Of course, as is always the case, I can't find my Eastwood catalog 
right now.

Anyway, one of the leading MGTD restoration books even recommends this 
product, but on the unpainted portions.  I have no idea if the product works 
well in an application over paint, but I'm sure if you call Eastwood and ask, 
they'll let you know if it's recommended or not.
