That did cross my mind at the time - lord knows the tach is flaky, the temp
gauge could certainly be flaky too, though there's no radiator cap on it -
it's sealed with upper and lower hoses, so I'm not sure how to check it.
OTOH, goodness knows when the radiator was last flushed...
