Is it possible to replace the motor mounts without removing the engine? One
of mine (driver's side, of course) is cracked, but I've got no other reason
to pull the engine, so I'd like to avoid renting a hoist if I can. Someone
once told me that I could just jack up the engine from underneath and
replace the mounts, but he said that I'd have to remove the steering rack.
I bought the mounts, but two years later they're still in the pile of parts
I haven't gotten around to installing yet. Thanks.

The drivers side mount can be changed with the rack in situ by turning a
thin spanner over and undoing the nut half a flat at a time...
