I'd visit the local 'Hot Rod' hangout/club, wheel supplier and see what
those guys do, to protect refurbished wheels. That's my plan when I get
around to doing my wheels. YMMV.

Using the same criteria you spell out for your needs. I went for
'185/70R 14 88H SF 226' I don't know what this code all means, but tyres
with this rating exceed the legal and insurance company requirements for
tyres fitted to the MGB's. Tyres were made by Bridgestone, here in South
Australia. Look a good size on the car, handle well and with the right air
pressure, give as good a ride, as I've experienced in an MG. IMHO.
Note-please delete the word 'tyres' and insert the word 'tires' where
appropriate. 8^)
