First a non-MG LBC story. I remember way back when there was only
one British cars mailing list, and on that list was a gent with a
289 Cobra he'd had for many years. Said it was his only car for
a while, when he lived in DC, and he enjoyed driving the beast
in the snow, passing the manly-man types in their pick-em-ups.
I grew up in Arkansas, and my 'B roadster got me through all sorts of
interesting weather. Lots of massive thunderstorms where me and the
old girl were waiting to get picked up by a tornado and hurled to
parts unknown. Also drove in the snow a few times, outstanding fun!
I also drove on dirt a number of times. A 'B is great in adverse
conditions, part of the reason we decided to build a GT rally car.
MG had some great adverts on this, my favs being the one of a 'B
blasting through the rain at Sebring, and the other of a pretty
stretched out on the bonnet of a roadster, top up, skis strapped
to the luggage rack, and some aggressive snow tires mounted on the
wire wheels.
One common complaint I've seen in this thread: the slow windscreen
wipers. Has anyone re-engineered this one? I'd like some real
wipers (that is fast and strong) for the rally car. Any mods to
be done to the existing motor? How about wiper motor swaps?
