Sorry, Can't help on the problem, but that's one hell of a commute? And I
thought my commute of 100 miles a day was bad... How many miles are on the car?

I was driving home tonight in my 74 B (101,500 miles). the car started fine
and ran well. after about 2 miles of street driving, I started hearing
noises... metallic knocking noises when the engine was under load
(accelerating). I also noticed a significant loss of power. the car idled
very rough and hesitated to rev up.
whaddya think? stuck valve? broken piston ring?
what's the first thing I should check?
