Hi Keith
We use a lot of Total seals in our shop. They do bring more performance but I
doubt that you would notice it on a road car at normal engine speeds. Being
an engineer I would think that you would have little problems fitting them.
But you need to follow the instructions fairly closely. The rebore should be
done with Total seals in mind and each ring should be checked in the bore for
size, do this to every ring in every bore, trust me on this one I KNOW what
happens if you don't. You also need to check that the ring grooves in the
piston are deep enough, in fact check everything you can! They are not the
easiest of rings to fit, being thin they can distort when you try to compress
them, they can also be a pain to get into the bore.
Another word of warning is do not lube the rings when you put them into the
bore, use a light oil, on an oil soaked cloth to go up and down the bore a
few times in preparation. If you oil them, like I would expect to do in the
normal manner, the rings will not bed into the bore.
All that aside, they are great and I like them, but they do take time to fit
in the correct way.
