Good year!
Does the car sit level, or does it sag in the back? That's what you need
to know about leaf springs. Mine had a broken leaf, so look 'em over
carefully, but they could very well be OK. Amazed the lever shocks are
still good. Keep 'em topped up!
I have heard various things about the necessity (or non-necessity) of
those straps, but I was just looking to replace mine for similar reasons.
I think with lever shocks they are needed to prevent excessive rebound
jounce.
Is the diff showing signs of leakage? If not, just change the oil. No
reason to start a leak where none exists <g>. Can't tell much about its
functional condition until you drive it. Might as well find out if it
howls before taking things apart, or you might be doing it twice.
