John -
I believe ZB Magnette engines had lift hooks built in to the nuts on the
valve-cover studs. My Magnette project/parts car has them. ' Think the
MGAs might have had them too although my Bs do not. I have four engines
currently sitting on their oil pans - doesn't hurt a bit. You can buy an
engine stand which makes it easier t o work on - and since the Magnette
engine weighs perhaps less than 500#, you don't need a huge one. But the
things make me nervous - you're putting a lot of faith in the bolts that
hold the engine to the stand. Also, ' think you have to remove flywheel
endplate from the engine before bolting it to the stand.
Usually I dissassemble mounts from suspension first, then remove mounts and
brackets from the engine. You're going to replace the mounts anyway.
Neat website! ' Glad to see increasing interest in the Farinas.
