That is exactly how mine on the 73 is held, except it also has a copper
washer between the cable and the outer nut i.e. as you tighten the nut it
clamps the washer down onto the inner nut. This inner 'nut' is not a free
nut as such but is a machined part of the stud. One of the three throttle
return springs hooks over the other end of the stud between the plate and
the washer on the split-pin side.
