Having read all the messages on this so far - which is unusual when there
are 278 in my
mailbox but Mike is a friend and i could see that he was hurting

I havnt lived full-time in the UK for 20 years but i have NEVER heard of
the police being
dismissive of these sorts of claims - they may not have enough evidence
to prosecute
but my bet is that a "quiet word" from an off duty copper in the
offenders ear would at
least avoid a repetition.
