There was some discussion regarding shipping a transmission
recently here and someone said you could ship it at a lower
price by declaring it to be junk or salvage. The lower price
is true and the reason is if anything should happen to the item
you will be paid the scrap value per pound and not the replacement
value of the item. The item will be listed on the manifest as
salvage and will be treated as such if there is a loss. There is
no free lunch. Just be aware of the risk involved. "But your Honor,
it really was a rebuilt transmission. I just declared it as salvage to
save a couple of bucks..."
