Kent, I'd suggest putting the filter as close to the tank as possible, and preferably before the pump. I have also installed filters in the fuel line, as it crosses the firewall. Some Japanese cars have nifty plastic filters with right-angle top connections that can be used where the fuel line makes a bend to the carbs.
