Hi Neil,
I'm not an racing expert, but I think that when you start a race you before
comencing the start of the race you make your engine warm.
This will enable you to build up the oil pressure timely I think.
What you indicate looks more a story of going full power immediately after
cranking the engine from a standstill and being impatient to build up the
oil pressure first.
The UK police had this issue when they used the Rover SD1 with the Rover V8
engine.
When posting at the motorway and answering a hasty call, may they did not
want to wait for pressure, so a lot of engines were damaged these days...
