Hi Listers,

I spent the whole 4th of July weekend swapping out all the running gear
and almost all of the little bits and pieces from a rusty '65 O/D B that
I bought last summer into a restored and just painted BRG 65' body shell
that I bought in November (yes the body / paint shop took 7 months to
paint an already primed completely stripped body shell). What fun !!

Yes, there was some frustration taking apart a 34 year old car, lots of
frozen screws and bolts, but when the bigger screwdriver, bigger hammer,
liquid wrench technique didn't work, I had no qualms about chiseling off
the head knowing I was going to send the body shell to the scrap heap.

Another MGB off the road, making all of ours rarer. This one is a real
basket case. When I lowered the rear springs, the brackets they were
attached to came with them. The underside of the car is held together
with riveted sheet metal. The floors are 1/2 " plywood, and the jack
stands push up about 6" in the back. I bought the car on the web
without seeing it, mostly for the O/D and I knew it was rusty, but man,
I didn't know how rusty rusty could be !!

All the old rusty, dirty parts look pretty bad on the brand new painted
bodyshell, but this is a long term restoration, and I'm going to do
things one at a time. I was in a hurry to transfer all the parts so I
could tow the car to New Jersey in 2 weeks when I move.

One question - there are two bolts on each side of the inner rear wheel
wells with chrome capped nuts on them on the disassembled car. On the
new body shell, there's the one captive thread doo dad that the seat
belt bolts into, like I had on my 68. Does anybody know why these 2 '65
cars had different fittings inside the rear wheel wells ?

Thanks for the earlier help with the tow question. I've bought a tow
bar, and now I have to see how to hook it up to the bumper, and I'll be
ready for the move.

Safety Fast,
