Good luck getting any intelligent help from A.P.T. !!
When I first built my BGT, I installed the cam they describe as being the
one the factory should have specified originally ("more grunt and no
sacrifices", kinda thing). I timed it exactly as they instructed (I used a
vernier timing gear and I do understand the procedure). I never could get a
decent idle, the car did not like to rev over 4,500 r.p.m. and I got only 20
mpg on a long, gentle cruise with a bunch of older MGs.
I replaced it with a stock grind cam and saw an immediate improvement in
power, idle and ability to rev. I returned the cam to A.P.T. with the
question "did, perhaps, something go wrong when this was ground?", and a
careful explanation of everything I had done and experienced. It took four
months for them to "check out" the cam, then their reply was that there was
nothing wrong with it. It took another 2 months to get a refund of the cost
of the cam. Would I buy another A.P.T. camshaft, or ask them for technical
help? Perhaps not..................!
