i've been trying to unravel the mystery of why my car seems to idles so
fast. so fast, in fact, i wouldnt call it an idle. after it runs for a
few minutes, it turns upwards o 2700 rpm or better. the jets are fully
in, the throttles are completely closed and the adjustment screw is as
far out ast it can go, nothing seems to be binding up. so, i thought
vaccum leak. i've taken the carbs off and the manifold and looked over
everything and i cant find any evidence of a bad gasket or crack or worn
throttle shafts. next i took the carb needles out to see if they were
correct. these are AUD136 carbs btw, on a 1275cc engine. the shank has
"007" stamped on it, but i am looking in the vb catalog and see the std
needle is "AN". i cant even find an "007" listed. does anyone know what
these are and if they could be causing such a high rpm at "idle"? one
other thing to note, i've noticed when i take the car for a drive, the
rpms will actually drop a few hundred when i have the clutch pedal
depressed. any ideas here?
