Muffled and unmuffled on an MG engine. I have had stock systems (quiet),
stock systems with front muffler removed (little louder, kinda nice), and
stock with a single glass pack in the rear muffler position (pretty nice
sound, neighbors never raised an eye) and my favorite a Peco header with a
straight exhaust and a Cherry bomb. Loud enough to be heard, but the
neighbors still only looked up when I came by. This set up roared under
full anger..... Than again I also liked my buddies E type with 2.5 inch
dual exhaust (No mufflers!!) and 3 inch resonators. It made little kids
cry......
Exhaust note is a matter of opinion and local laws. I myself like a
little grunt in the exhaust, but think that 2" pipes are a little big for a
mildly tuned motor. Also glass packs are illegal in some areas due to the
lack of a spark arrestor.
Brake problems with the rear. Check that the pedal is moving and releasing
the piston in the master enough to create pressure and open the relief
port. I havn't had no pressure in the rear but I have seen too much. If
the piston doesnt move back far enough the pressure doesnt release, and
when you depress it again it builds up more pressure locking them up.
Fuel pumps. If I had an SU I would rebuild it. If done with reasonable
care they will work well for many years. The parts that go bad are all
replaceable which is nice. I have installed aftermarket pumps (high
pressure pump with pressure regulator), but only when I didnt have an SU
previously installed. My current car has some odd aftermarket SU looking
pump which I will use until it dies. In the mean time I will keep an eye
out for a rebuildable SU pump.
Anybody planning on going to Mid Ohio next weekend?
