I'm experiencing similar symtoms but I only notice mine through the
steering wheel at speeds greater than 60 MPH. I also rebuilt the entire
front suspension and had the alignment reset and have new minilite
replica wheels but old tires that were new 8 years ago.
I was wondering if tires that ran for 15,000 miles on old wobbly Rostyle
wheels could have developed a wear partern that produces a shake when
mounted on new straight and true wheels. When balanced, a couple of
these tires required 4 oz. or more of wheel weights when mounted on the
Rostyles but only 1 oz or less when mounted on the new minilite
replicas. When I had the tires changed over, I didn't actually see the
mechanic do the balancing and I'm wondering if they were actually spin
balanced or bubble balanced. I'll probably pay to have it done again at
a more reputable shop.
My second thought was the spring loaded damper in the steering rack. I
had 3 .010" shims under the cover of mine and I removed 1 as an
experiment but didn't notice a lot of difference. I may experiment
again and remove 1 more shim and see what happens. When I have it
appart, I'll remove the damper pad to see if it's worn.
