<<Bill or someone commented that they did not go racing until the oil temp
came up, but did not indicate what the temp was. That would be good
info. Hard running on cold oil may cause as many problems for the short
run driver as overheated oil causes for those of us who drive regularly
for longer runs. This is a consideration regardless of the make of car,
or number of cylinders.

What I say to do and what I end up doing are sometimes a little different, but
what I normally do at the races is idle the car until the oil temp comes off
the peg and hopefully a bit more than that. By the end of the pregrid and warm
up lap, it is normally up to around at least 170, which is where I like it
before exceeding 7000 rpm. If it is a cold day, and/or if I have incorrectly
taped up the cooler opening, I might have to short shift at 5500 or so for a
couple of laps.
On the street, you are likely fine as long as you keep the engine below
2500-3000 rpm until the coolant is up to operating temperature
