Your engine may show more wear on the bearings than a car with a cooler. On
the other hand, if it has been driven by the proverbial little old lady, which
many of the late single carbs have, it may be just fine.
If I were rebuilding the engine on a late car, one of the improvements I would
definitely make would be to add a cooler, but then I may drive harder than you
customarily do. Frankly, given your climate, I would put a cooler on it even
if I were building it for SWMBO (she's the one with the MGC and a line of
traffic a mile long behind her, all honking, she thinks, just to say "Hi")
