John,
>4. Turn dashpot upside down over your favorite oil recepticle.
Umm, the dashpot won't come off with the piston inside it - at least mine
don't. The piston tends to stay in the carb body. So..
4. Remove piston assembly, (big round thing with tube sticking out of it
<G>, doesn't actually look like a piston if it's the first time you've seen
it! <G>) being *very* careful not to damage the needle underneath the
piston - withdraw it straight up.
5. The damper oil actually sits in the tube built into the piston, not the
dashpot. The dashpot has a guide for the tube built into it. Tip the piston
over and empty the oil into a container.
Take extreme care when putting the piston back into the body. You must make
sure the needle locates in the top of the jet. Look into the carburettor
body (where the piston came from), you'll see the 'bridge' and a little
brass hole. The needle has to go into this hole. Take care not to bend the
needle!!
Reassemble the dashpots, refill with oil and refit damper.
A syringe sounds like a good idea too! :) But don't worry it really is very
easy anyway.
Cheers,
Neil.
