>...hate to single you out Rick..but not all needs to be replaced
>older (63 to 69) B's put out about 20 more HP than post 75's
>due to cam detuning to meet emissions here in the states
>the 1800 (18V) is quite comfortable putting out 120HP
>post 75's are rated somewhere around 75HP
>while earlier models are rated at 94HP
Remember though - somewhere around '73 or '74, MG started quoting their cars
using the Brake HorsePower system. The BHP system rates the engine output
at the drive wheels. Before they switched to BHP, the engine was rated at
torque and HP right at the flywheel...Hence the HP drop between '73 and '74
where not many mechanicals changed. Though the emissions stuff did suck
some horsepower while the ZS carbs just plain sucked, the cars didn't loose
that much power in the long run. Weren't the cars rated at just over 100 HP
at the start of their production, in stock form?
I know this has nothing to do with the supercharging issue, and I don't mean
to pick, but anyone should keep this info in mind when comparing cars of
this time period. The fact that HP numbers can be confused should be
considered when working on any car of this time period.
