Dear listers,

my '73 B GT (RHD) gave me some trouble: earlier this year, I send her to
the paint shop to have some new panels painted. She returned all right,
apart from the ignition lock, which was pushed in, and the steering lock
wouldn't engage. Lock would turn, ignition was OK. Only the tip of the key
was in, and would sometimes fall out when driving. The car wouldn't
notice...

After putting in a rebuild distributor, I tried to start the car a few
times. A click indicated the ignition lock shot back in its original
position ( not pushed in ), but the key wouldn't turn. Further trouble
ensued, as a short turn on the wheel did engage the steering wheel lock.
Now, in short, the steering lock is engaged, the key refuses to turn, and
the car goes nowhere. Shall I put some WD-40 in ?
The Haynes and Bentley says to remove the lock assembly, steering wheel and
shaft should come off. Is there a way round this? The lock is the type far
on the shaft, not the one in the cowling.

Thanks for any suggestions!
