Hello Walt. It should only cost you about $300 to do the work yourself. More than likely your head is cracked. Bet a dollar to a dime. There is head shop in Chattanooga, TN. "Dover Heads" Will repair cracks and do a three angle valve job and all the fixings. For around $250. They receive and ship UPS. Head gasket set. Around $30. Dive in there and do it.
