Right! So I opened up the carbs today, amazing little beasties... so simple!
I'm following Roger Garnett's SU tuning guide but I have a few questions:
1. Can you clean out the float bowls without taking them off the carb?
It seems like it would be incredibly difficult to take off the fuel line
underneath and free the securing bolt without taking the carbs off the
engine. Bit of gunk down there I'd love to clear out.
2. When mesuring the float clearance with your trusty 1/8" drill bit, should
you press down on the float while its upside down so that its at its maxiumum
height (upside down, remember) or should you just let it rest on the needle
under its own weight?
I finally have some decent light to work under!! Gosh it makes it so much
nicer to work on the car... seems to be idling about right with all of the
adjusting screws backed off, which makes me think I have some small air
leaks. Tiny bit of wobble in the shafts.
Would someone like to explain the difference between the throttle adjusting
screw and the fast idle adjusting screw?
Thanks,
Skye
