Hello all,

You may have seen my post recently about wanting some of the original
Austin green engine paint.

The paint that was purchased in a spray can from Mini Mania out in
Malpitas, CA (p/n GAP 410) ISN'T EVEN CLOSE!!!

This paint is distributed by Moss Motors and the Mini Spares Centre, LTD.;
apparently Mini Mania purchased some of this stuff from Moss International.
The label reads "Classic Car Colours".

I sprayed the stuff onto some parts to be assembled onto another engine,
and noticed the color and gloss difference right away: it is FAR too dark
and FAR too glossy. Indeed, it is almost a dark Olive Drab with a VERY
high gloss.

I compared the color to some OE parts that were removed from new engines,
and carefully stored. I feel absolutely sure that the NOS parts have not
changed colors during storage because of the light, temperature and
humidity controlled storage area.

I paid a total of $21.95 including shipping for this junk, not a lot to me,
but to some of you who are trying to do a perfect restoration on a BMC
engine, this might matter. Certainly it matters to anyone with the
inclination to do an accurate resto on their car.

I ordered different paint, and it matched. (And as soon as I remember
what-the-hell-I-did-with-the-receipt, I'll let you know where I got it!)

I thought that since I give reports on the good stuff, I'd report on the
poor stuff as well.....

Regards,
Ray
