Minutes of the meeting of the North American MG Council Thursday,
August 13, 1998 held at the University Motors Summer Party, Grand
Rapids, Michigan. The meeting was called to order by convener Ron
Embling at 1:00 p.m. Introductions were made and a roster sheet
circulated.
Old Business:
The first order of old business was a discussion of the awarding of
the Nuffield Cup given by the MG Car Club each year to the outstanding
North American MG Register or Centre. Nick Cox, the overseas
representative of the MGCC to North America stated that the procedure
for having the MG Council accept recommendations for the awarding of the
Nuffield Cup and forwarding them to the MGCC was too encumbering and he
would prefer more flexibility in making the choice. MG clubs wishing to
be considered for the Nuffield Cup should contact Nick directly. Nick
will prepare a history of the Cup as a news release so that clubs may
become better informed about this award.
Second order of business. The group MG Register ad that has been
appearing in Hemmings Motor News and in other publications has been
suspended. The ad will be redone with new copy and submitted to John
Libbert for insertion in various publications. The ad will be funded
with funds left over from MG '96.
Third order of business. Tom Boscarino, Chairman of the AMGC
Register gave a history of what has happened regarding MG 2001 in
Atlanta. Because of philosophical differences between the Council of
Registers and the MG leadership in Atlanta, the Registers have decided
against the Atlanta site and are pursuing the Minneapolis-St. Paul site
for MG 2001.
New Business.
John Twist suggested that the excess funds (profit) from MG 2001 be
given to the Myasthena gravis disease association (MG disease). John's
father suffers from Myasthena gravis, a condition characterized by
weakness of certain voluntary skeletal muscles. Further consideration
will be given to his suggestion.
Richard Miller, MG Drivers' Club, distributed a flier announcing an
updated addition of MG by McCombs available from Osprey Publishing at a
20% discount. Contact the MG Drivers' Club. He also announced a MG's
English Heritage trip to run from October 29 to November 7, 1998.
Dave Smith, Vice Chairman of NAMGAR, recommended that the Chairman
of the various MG Registers meet annually to discuss issues of mutual
concern.
The next meeting of the North American MG Council will be held at
11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 15, 1999 at the Carlisle Import Show, Carlisle,
Pa.
