This goes for ALL the MGA, Magnettes, and early 3 synchro MGB
gearbox....

Undo the speedo-cable at the gearbox end, remove the two bolts holding
in the speedometer drive, ( the brass bit,)and withdraw the drive gear &
spindle assembly. The oil level should be low enough for it not to run
out!! Pull out the drive spindle, then the collar behind it, and you
will see a small 'lip seal'inside the brass bit. This seal, part number
2A3254, is easily changed. Refit the new seal, push in the collar, (
called a 'ring, oil seal retaining,) in the manual, refit the drive gear
spindle into the housing. Refit the assembly to the gearbox, using a new
gasket.

Keep the oil level correct, do NOT overfill. Keep the TOP 10" of speedo
cable free of oil, or it winds itself into the speedometer head and
causes the needle to 'drag'.
