If you replaced it and it worked, even for a short time, then the only
possible way you could be at fault is if the connections to the sender or the
guage came loose or corroded. Corrosion is very unlikely in a week, and you
have checked the connections, so it is most probable that the sender is bad.
The most damaging failure mode for the stabilizer would be to provide the full
14 -15 volt alternator output to the guages. That would cause them to read
high, but would still not do any damage to either the gauges or the sender. If
this were to happen, you would notice it fairly soon, as the temperatur gauge
would also read high.
There may well be something I am overlooking, but I can't see an installation
problem here.
