The oil press. relief valve that's stuck is still winning...going on
three weeks. Trying Bob Mason/ John Twist's suggestion right now.
Engine is out of the car. Drilled a small (1/8") hole into the end of
the valve and tried a tap (#8-32) briefly. It gripped but lost its
grip, then pulled out. Next I'll try a slightly larger hole and tap I
guess (good thing my parents own a hardware store- these metal-drilling
bits and taps get expensive!!!) The sad problem is that this drilling
is introducing metal filings into the engine, and there's a hole right
by the valve where I'm drilling, and I assume this drains into the
sump. I'm going to have to thoroughly clean the engine as soon as I (if
I ever) get this valve out. I'll get to learn how to build an engine, I
guess.
I've REALLY lost enthusiasm for this car lately. It's been three weeks,
and this has postponed my Midget and MGB/GT projects. The joy of
driving my B was keeping me motivated to work on the Midget and B/GT,
and with a dead B, it's hard to be motivated.
So if you have a spare MG that needs some miles put on it, let me know!!
Before this valve failed, I was averaging 1000 miles / month in my B.
Maybe it will see the road again before I move off to school in two
months :(
