doughnuts

Sorry to bother the list with this, but I got no response last time.

I am putting the new exhaust system (stock) on the '74 B today.  I cannot
remember which way the exhaust doughnuts between the manifold and the
downpipe go up.  They have a metal side and a non-metal side.  Which way
does the metal side of the doughnut go.  Against the manifold or against
into the downpipe flange?
