John, On my '73 MGB there is a plate holding the shift lever in with three bolts. As I recall, the bolts have a shoulder that have a spring on them to hold the lever mechanism under tension (and quiet.) If the springs are gone or weak, the shifter will rattle until you have your hand on it. R. Johnson - Dallas |
