My, my, my, what a simply gorgeous day in the Midget. As the list knows,
finally got my Midget back on the road again and took it for a spin.
Enjoyed that so much I took it for another longer spin. And since that was
so much fun, when my wife came home from work, I took her for her first
ride in the MG. Lovely weather, car ran well (mostly) and I had a ball.
Interesting note...there is hope for Miata drivers. I saw 5 Miatas today
either on the road or in the same parking lots with me. Four, count 'em 4
had their tops down along the lone British car in the lot (mine). :)
Couple of questions for list input should someone care to chime in.
First, now that I changed to an exhaust manifold from a header my air
filter covers are waaaaaayyy to close to the bonnet. In fact, I can hear
them clanging at times and I had to tap one with a hammer to get the bonnet
to close without dinging it. Wonder if there is some intelligent thing I
can do to make it better. I'll be looking into that tomorrow.
Second, I played with the idle screws and got a pretty even fast idle
(approx 1100 rpm). Ran like that all day until I took my wife for a ride.
Now it idles much lower and rougher. Will konk out on me at some lights if
I don't rev the engine or choke it. I'm not panicked about this, of
course, but it bears looking into. Tomorrow I'll work more dilligently on
the adjustment and make sure that things like plugs, distrib cap/points,
etc. are in good shape. I'm feeling like the car is now on the road and I
can start tinkering.
But just to go back to the main theme of this post...
What a great day to be alive and driving!
