MGB Alternator Problems

I'm having problems with the alternator in my B. I know that it's not
the original Lucas part, I think it's a GM. Does anyone know what GM
alternator is used and how is it supposed to be hooked up? How many
amps  are the GM and Lucas rated to? Is there anything that I should
check before I pull it out to have it tested?
